Research Interest: Pollution Management and Renewable energy

Dr. (Mrs.) Mary Princewill Ekanim obtained her Ph.D. degree in Environmental Management (with bias in Environmental Chemistry) in The Institute of Geosciences and Space Technology, Rivers State University formerly known as Rivers State University of Science and Technology in 2012. She obtained a M.Sc. degree in Applied Chemistry from University of Uyo in 2015 and B.Sc. Ed. Chemistry in University of Calabar in 1989. She obtained her O’Level certificate in 1980 from Union Secondary School, Ibiaku in Ibiono L.G.A. of Akwa Ibom State

Before gaining employment into Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), she had attended some courses in Quality and Environmental Management Systems as well as Health, Safety and Environment (HSE). She worked as a Quality Management Systems Auditor. She is an ISO Certified Auditor for both Quality and Environmental Management System (ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 respectively)

She has at present 9 publications both in local and international journals mainly in Pollution Control and Management.  She has attended conferences and present papers both in Nigeria and outside Nigeria.

In some of her research she has been able to produce paper, biogas, fish feeds and remove excess nutrients from water using Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) an invasive plant in the aquatic environment.

Currently her interest is in plastic pollution especially in the marine environment considering its contribution to climate change and how this has affected marine lives as well as the livelihood of the coastal dweller whose major business is in the marine environment.
