The students are advised to use the universities library for their research as new books have been made available by the university.


  • Availability of relevant books, internet and intranet connectivity as well as good equipment, furniture and other physical facilities in the library and the entire campus fetched full NUC accreditation status for the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences in 2014 at first outing. Faculties of Engineering, Agriculture and Management Sciences have also been accredited this year.Faculties of Education and Arts are yet to be accredited.
  • RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Device) Gate which is a security electronic device has been installed in Akwa Ibom State University Library for the first time, courtesy of TETFUND.
  • The expansion of the main Library and extension of Obio Akpa library has placed the usable floor area 2673m2, sitting capacity of 623 with 57,599 books, 3109 journals, 3000 e-books and 1,000,000 e-journals.
  • Acquisition of books, e-books and other library materials are done  through purchases and donations from donor agencies, who are   greatly appreciated. They include ETF (now TETFUND), individuals such as Mrs. Iquo Amagbe, Patrick G. Utin (Utin Foundation Inc. USA), Prof. Nkanta Ekanem, Chief Sunny Ibanga, Dr. Edward Okey  (Immediate Past Dean of Faculty of Science), Arnold Udoka, League of Akwa Ibom State Professionals, Chief (Dr) Amanam, Emeka Offor`s Foundation, Green Nwankwo`s Foundation, Obong (Engr) A. S. Udofia (Present Chairman of Council), DrAniefiok Ite (Lecturer), The Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigerian Stock Exchange, Uyo, FOSMACIN Books and Things among others including institutions, governments, parastatals and ministries.
  • Sincere appreciation is extended to His Excellency Chief (Dr) Godswill Obot Akpabio, the Immediate Past Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Visitor to AKSU for graciously approving the   funding of the extension and expansion of the library buildings and provision of books.
  • The library space, sitting capacities and collections were found absolutely adequate by the accreditation teams in 2013/14 and 2015/16.
  • Books, furniture, ICT equipment, Bindery Equipment and library  tools were acquired appropriately to suit academic programmes and meet NUC standards.
  • Internet and intranet connectivity has been a great achievement.
  • Academic Librarians of the University teach the Use of Library to all first year students as a requirement towards graduation.
  • A course manual entitled “Library Users Education” has been produced by academic library staff teaching the course. First year        students have found this manual to be a useful tool for the course.
  • The compilation of AKSU library data bases by book titles, staff and users is done.
